This article announces VIF Rate Limiters for AWS Direct Connect dedicated connections, enabling bandwidth management across multiple virtual interfaces.
- Set maximum bandwidth allocation for up to 10 VIFs per dedicated connection
- Capacity increments range from 50 Mbps to 1.6 Tbps with link aggregation groups
- Rate limiting applies to both ingress and egress traffic on AWS network
- Excess packets dropped to prevent VIF bandwidth consumption of other VIFs
- New CloudWatch metrics track utilization percentage and dropped packet counts
- Available in all AWS Regions supporting Direct Connect dedicated connections
- Configurable via AWS Direct Connect console, API, or SDK
