This article announces AWS Step Functions integration with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, enabling AI agent reasoning steps in workflows through a managed harness (currently in preview).
- Add AI agent reasoning steps to Step Functions workflows for automation
- Automate tasks like document classification and form element extraction
- Run multiple agents in parallel or sequence at workflow decision points
- Add human approval before critical actions
- View agent input, output, token usage, and duration in execution history
- Create or reuse harnesses directly from Workflow Studio visual builder
- Override model, system prompt, and tools per invocation without duplication
- Persist agent context across invocations using session IDs
- Available in US East, US West, Europe (Frankfurt), and Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Standard Step Functions and Bedrock pricing applies; no additional integration charges
This integration simplifies adding AI-powered reasoning to workflows, enabling automated decision-making with full auditability and human oversight.
