AWS Cloud WAN Routing Policy: Real-World Global Network Scenarios – Part 2

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

This article demonstrates how AWS Cloud WAN routing policies solve common routing challenges in hybrid and multi-site environments using three real-world scenarios.

  • Control route propagation from Transit Gateway environments using BGP community tagging and filtering to prevent duplicate advertisements
  • Improve path selection across multiple Direct Connect locations using local preference to steer traffic toward originating data centers with deterministic failover
  • Resolve BGP ASN conflicts using AS-path replacement to enable communication between networks with identical or conflicting Autonomous System Numbers
  • Routing policies operate at attachment, segment, or Region level with match conditions, actions, and directionality controls
  • Requires AWS Cloud WAN core network policy version 2025.11 or later for implementation

AWS Cloud WAN routing policies provide centralized policy enforcement for global network routing control, eliminating the need for on-premises BGP reconfiguration.
