AWS announces Dynamic Instrumentation for Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals, enabling runtime inspection of live applications without restarts or redeployments.
- Capture variable values, method arguments, return values, and stack traces at specific code locations
- Eliminates need for logging statements, redeployment, and problem reproduction cycles
- Configure monitoring locations via CloudWatch Application Signals MCP server or AWS CLI/SDK
- Runtime snapshots delivered to CloudWatch Logs, correlated with active traces
- Supported languages: Java, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Available in all commercial AWS regions; disabled by default and requires flag enablement
Dynamic Instrumentation simplifies production debugging by capturing runtime context without application restarts, making it practical to investigate hard-to-replicate issues.
