Amazon CloudWatch Logs announces intelligent tiering for storage

News

Amazon CloudWatch Logs announces intelligent storage tiering that automatically classifies log data across three tiers based on access patterns, reducing storage costs without operational overhead.

  • Automatically reclassifies data not accessed for 30 days to Infrequent Access tier
  • Moves data not accessed for 90 days to Archive Instant Access tier
  • Automatically promotes accessed data back to Standard tier for 30 days
  • Maintains consistent query experience across all storage tiers
  • Consolidates logs in CloudWatch to reduce MTTR and eliminate multi-tool management
  • Available in all AWS commercial regions except Middle East (Bahrain and UAE)
  • Enable via AWS Management Console, SDKs, or AWS CLI at account level

Intelligent tiering enables cost-effective long-term log retention in CloudWatch with unified visibility and analysis.
