Amazon S3 removes the 30-day minimum retention requirement for transitions to S3 Standard-IA and S3 One Zone-IA storage classes.
- Objects can now transition to infrequent access tiers on day of creation instead of after 30 days
- S3 Standard-IA and S3 One Zone-IA offer up to 40% lower storage costs than S3 Standard
- Maintains millisecond access latency for retrieval when needed
- Ideal for backups, log analytics, and compliance workloads with rapid data cooling
- Configure transitions using S3 console, AWS CLI, or SDKs with 0-day lifecycle rules
- Available in all AWS Regions supporting these storage classes
This change enables faster cost optimization for workloads where data becomes cold within hours or days of creation.
