Centralize your multicloud management in AWS Systems Manager with automated onboarding and simplified pricing

Multicloud Blog

AWS Systems Manager now enables centralized multicloud management of Azure VMs alongside EC2 instances through Cloud Connector with automated onboarding and simplified pay-as-you-go pricing.

  • Cloud Connector automatically discovers and onboards Azure VMs as managed nodes without manual agent installation or SSH key distribution
  • Newly launched VMs in connected subscriptions are automatically managed by Systems Manager
  • Advanced instances tier eliminated; pay only for capabilities used like Run Command and Session Manager
  • Manage Azure VMs using same Systems Manager tools as EC2: Patch Manager, Run Command, Session Manager, State Manager, Inventory
  • Secure OIDC-based federation between AWS and Azure with no long-lived credentials stored
  • Unified console view of EC2 instances and Azure VMs with filtering, tagging, and metadata visibility
  • Session Manager enables RDP to Windows VMs and SSH to Linux VMs without opening inbound ports
  • Pricing example: 2,000 nodes with monthly commands and sessions costs ~$108 versus ~$10,150 under old model

Cloud Connector simplifies multicloud operations by providing a single console, unified toolset, and consistent workflows across AWS and Azure environments with secure federated authentication.
