This article announces batch instance termination support in Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling, allowing up to 100 instances to be terminated in a single API call.
- Terminate up to 100 instances per API call to reduce scale-down overhead
- Designed for rapid scale-down in AI/ML training, container orchestration, and event-driven architectures
- Atomic validation of all instances before termination begins
- Preserves existing Auto Scaling behaviors including lifecycle hooks and connection draining
- Available in all AWS Regions at no additional cost
Batch termination significantly reduces API calls needed for scaling down large Auto Scaling groups.
