Resolve duplicate health records with AWS HealthLake
Industries Blog
AWS HealthLake introduces resource matching, a built-in capability that automatically identifies and links duplicate FHIR resources representing the same real-world entity across seven resource types.
- Automatically matches resources based on healthcare identifiers like SSN, MRN, NPI, and driver's license numbers
- Supports globally unique identifiers and scoped identifiers matched on system and value combinations
- Creates non-destructive FHIR Linkage resources that reference matched resources without modifying originals
- Recognizes same identifiers under different system URIs and ignores placeholder values
- Operates across Patient, RelatedPerson, Practitioner, PractitionerRole, Organization, Location, and Device resource types
- Runs asynchronously and is eventually consistent after resources are written
- Available in gated preview; enables unified longitudinal records, improved analytics, and reduced operational burden
Resource matching eliminates the need for separate master data management systems while maintaining data integrity and enabling accurate clinical analytics across healthcare networks.
