Amazon Kinesis Data Streams now supports a dry run feature to validate API requests and permissions without executing operations.
- Set optional 'DryRun' parameter to true to validate permissions before production stream access
- Eliminates need for fragile workarounds like deliberately oversized PutRecord requests
- Returns 'DryRunOperationException' on successful validation, confirming request would succeed
- Available for five APIs: PutRecord, PutRecords, GetRecords, GetShardIterator, SubscribeToShard
- Supported in all AWS Regions where Kinesis Data Streams is available
The dry run feature provides a safe, reliable way to test application permissions and request validity without risking unintended production data writes.
