AWS Lambda now supports direct read configuration for Amazon S3 Files, enabling optimization of file read performance based on application requirements.
- Explicitly enable or disable direct reads independent of Lambda function memory size
- Direct read enabled: files 1 MB+ read from S3 bucket for maximum throughput; smaller files use high-performance storage
- Direct read disabled: all reads served through high-performance storage for lowest latency
- Available in all AWS commercial regions except Asia Pacific (New Zealand), Middle East (Bahrain), and Middle East (UAE)
- Configure via AWS Management Console, CLI, SDKs, and CloudFormation with no additional charges
This launch enables customers to optimize S3 Files performance for scalable data processing pipelines and stateful agentic workloads.
