AWS Transfer Family now supports source IP preservation for SFTP servers behind a Network Load Balancer (NLB)

News

AWS Transfer Family now preserves the client's source IP address using Proxy Protocol v2 when an NLB is placed in front of SFTP servers with VPC-hosted endpoints.

  • Client source IP is preserved in logs, events, and presented to custom identity providers during authentication
  • Enables IP-based auditing, access controls, and compliance requirements
  • Previously, NLB replaced client source IP with its own private IP address
  • Feature can be enabled per SFTP server through console, CLI, or API
  • Available in all AWS Regions where AWS Transfer Family is supported

This enhancement improves visibility and security for organizations using NLBs with Transfer Family SFTP servers.
