HPC Blog
AWS is ending development of Research and Engineering Studio (RES) and will release version 2026.09 as the final release, with support ending September 30, 2027.
- RES remains open-source under Apache 2.0 license and continues running in customer accounts indefinitely
- Customers can continue self-managing RES, engage AWS Partners for ongoing support and maintenance, or migrate to AWS managed services
- AWS managed alternatives include Amazon WorkSpaces, Amazon WorkSpaces Applications, and AWS Parallel Computing Service (PCS)
- Four AWS Partners offer RES transition services: Do IT Now, Itility, Relevance Lab, and The Server Labs
- AWS will shift investment focus to managed services and partner-delivered solutions for HPC and engineering workloads
Customers have clear transition options and can move at their own pace, with AWS account teams available to help plan migrations or connect with partners.
