Share Systems Manager documents across your AWS Organization with AWS RAM
AWS Cloud Operations Blog
AWS Systems Manager now supports sharing SSM documents across AWS Organizations and organizational units through AWS Resource Access Manager, eliminating manual per-account sharing lists.
- Share SSM documents to entire organizations or specific OUs instead of individual account IDs
- Automatic sync with organizational membership changes eliminates manual updates
- Supports up to 5,000 principals per resource share, compared to 1,000 account IDs previously
- Create resource shares via AWS RAM console, CLI, or CloudFormation for infrastructure-as-code management
- Member accounts run shared documents by ARN without maintaining local copies
- Guided migration tool converts existing account-ID sharing to AWS RAM without disrupting access
- No additional cost for AWS RAM or SSM document sharing
This approach simplifies operational document management at scale by replacing account-ID lists with organization-based access control.
