AWS Systems Manager now supports sharing documents through AWS Resource Access Manager

News

AWS Systems Manager now supports sharing SSM Documents with entire AWS organizations or organizational units using AWS Resource Access Manager, replacing the previous limitation of sharing only publicly or with individual account IDs.

  • Share documents with organizations or OUs; sharing automatically updates as accounts are added or removed
  • Create AWS RAM resource shares, add SSM Documents, and select organizations or OUs to share with
  • Access managed through AWS RAM and resource-based policies using standard AWS authorization
  • External accounts receive invitations and must accept before gaining access
  • Available in Systems Manager console, AWS CLI, and AWS SDKs across all AWS Regions
  • No additional charge for sharing documents through AWS RAM

This enhancement simplifies document sharing at scale by eliminating manual account tracking and enabling automatic updates as organizational structure changes.
