AWS Lambda announces Lambda Web Functions
News
AWS Lambda announces Lambda Web Functions, a new serverless compute primitive where code handles HTTP requests directly using familiar frameworks like Express or Hono.
- Supports AI inference endpoints, server-side rendered web apps, streaming APIs, microservices, and webhooks
- Pay for active CPU time and memory, not idle time waiting on databases or services
- Single warm execution environment serves multiple concurrent requests, reducing cold starts significantly
- Supports Node.js runtime with native HTTP streaming capabilities
- Multi-Region routing enables deployment once with requests served from closest Region
- VPC connectivity allows access to resources within a VPC
- Available in US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Europe (Ireland)
- Existing Lambda functions renamed to Lambda Event Functions (naming change only, no code changes required)
Lambda Web Functions enables developers to build and deploy web applications quickly without managing servers, using familiar programming models and paying based on active CPU usage.
