Adaptive agentic intelligence framework using Strands Agents

Machine Learning Blog

This article presents the Adaptive Agentic Intelligence Framework (AAIF), which uses Strands Agents to intelligently route AI requests between local small language models and cloud-hosted models on Amazon Bedrock.

  • Route routine tasks to local SLMs via Ollama for low latency and offline operation
  • Escalate complex requests to Amazon Bedrock frontier models for advanced reasoning
  • Use lightweight SLM orchestrator (llama3.2:1b) to classify requests without hardcoded rules
  • Implement local vision analysis and device telemetry retrieval on edge hardware
  • Adapt to hybrid, cloud-only, or air-gapped deployment scenarios
  • Integrate with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for distributed tool management
  • Apply Amazon Bedrock Guardrails for responsible AI controls across all inference paths

AAIF reduces API costs while maintaining low latency by intelligently orchestrating model selection based on task complexity, applicable across IoT monitoring, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing use cases.
