Amazon DynamoDB global tables now support disassociating replicas

News

Amazon DynamoDB global tables now support disassociating replicas without deleting table data or requiring table recreation.

  • Stop replication to and from a replica while keeping the table as a single-Region table
  • Accounts can leave shared multi-account global tables and use tables independently
  • Maintain replicas for local workloads, validation, or audit purposes without data copying
  • Supported for same-account and multi-account global tables using multi-Region eventual consistency
  • Available via AWS Management Console, CLI, API, and CloudFormation

This feature simplifies DynamoDB global table management by enabling flexible replica disassociation without data loss or table recreation.
