Visualize points and routes with GeoJSON in Amazon Quick Sight layer maps

Machine Learning Blog

Amazon QuickSight layer maps now support Point and LineString GeoJSON geometry types, enabling visualization of specific locations and routes between them.

  • Points mark individual locations like stores or facilities; LineStrings trace routes like delivery paths or flights
  • Layer maps join GeoJSON geometry files with QuickSight datasets using shared key fields
  • GeoJSON files must be in .geojson format with maximum 100 MB file size
  • Layer map points offer locked viewports and fixed locations; native point maps support dynamic geocoding and automatic updates
  • Advanced techniques include viewport control via APIs, layering multiple geometry types, and programmatic GeoJSON updates using S3 and QuickSight APIs
  • Combine points with polygons or lines to show customer density within territories or stops along delivery routes

Layer maps enable geospatial analysis by combining curated location data with business metrics for pattern recognition tied to geography.
