AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports OAuth for Apache Iceberg REST Catalog APIs

News

AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports OAuth 2.0 bearer token authentication for Apache Iceberg REST Catalog APIs using AWS Sign-In.

  • Query engines like Apache Spark, Trino, and Flink can authenticate using standard OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens
  • Grant federated partner access to Iceberg tables without distributing AWS credentials
  • Exchange OIDC identity tokens for short-lived, Glue-scoped bearer tokens via OAuth 2.0 Token Exchange
  • Access remains governed by AWS IAM and Lake Formation permissions
  • Available in all AWS Regions where Glue and Lake Formation are supported

This enables third-party analytics and data cloud platforms to query Glue Data Catalog tables through a standards-based authentication path.
