Aurora PostgreSQL now supports querying of Apache Iceberg and Parquet data

News

Aurora PostgreSQL now supports direct querying of Apache Iceberg and Parquet data stored in data lakes without requiring ETL pipelines or data duplication.

  • Query Iceberg and Parquet data in S3, S3 Tables, or AWS Glue Data Catalog using PostgreSQL foreign tables
  • Uses DuckDB's embedded query engine for high-performance execution against underlying data lake formats
  • Supports external Iceberg REST Catalog (IRC)-compatible catalogs federated through AWS Glue
  • Materialize data into native Aurora PostgreSQL tables using standard SQL for latency-sensitive workloads
  • Generally available on Aurora PostgreSQL 17.11, 18.6 and higher across all AWS regions at no additional charge

Eliminates the need for costly ETL pipelines and data duplication while enabling applications to access data lake insights through familiar PostgreSQL interfaces.
