Amazon ECS adds Amazon VPC Lattice support for blue/green, linear, and canary deployments
News
Amazon ECS now supports built-in blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies for services using Amazon VPC Lattice, enabling managed traffic shifting across VPCs and AWS accounts.
- Blue/green deployments shift all traffic at once; linear shifts in equal increments; canary starts with small percentage
- Validate new versions with test traffic before shifting production traffic
- Use deployment lifecycle hooks including Lambda and pause hooks for custom validation and manual approvals
- CloudWatch alarms and ECS deployment circuit breaker enable automatic rollback on detected issues
- Bake time keeps previous version ready for quick rollback without downtime
- Configure via AWS Management Console, CLI, SDKs, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Available for new and existing ECS services in all AWS regions where VPC Lattice is available
ECS customers can now implement sophisticated deployment strategies with VPC Lattice for safer, more controlled service updates.
