Amazon ECS now supports linear and canary deployment strategies for containerized applications, providing enhanced flexibility and control during service updates.
- Linear deployments gradually shift traffic in equal increments with configurable step percentages and bake times
- Canary deployments route a small percentage of traffic to the new service revision for initial validation
- Both strategies support deployment lifecycle hooks and CloudWatch alarm integration
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions for services using Application Load Balancer or ECS Service Connect
- Supports configuration through Console, SDK, CLI, CloudFormation, CDK, and Terraform
These new deployment options enable safer, more controlled application updates with built-in monitoring and rollback capabilities.
