Amazon EBS Fast Snapshot Restore (FSR) is a feature that eliminates the need for volume initialization when creating EBS volumes from snapshots, providing improved and predictable performance for use cases like VDI, backup & restore, test/dev volume copies, and booting from custom AMIs.
Specifically, the article covers:
- FSR is now available in 6 additional AWS regions: Europe (Zurich), Europe (Spain), Middle East (UAE), Asia Pacific (Melbourne), Asia Pacific (Hyderabad), and Israel (Tel Aviv).
- With FSR, EBS volumes restored from FSR-enabled snapshots instantly receive full provisioned performance, eliminating the need for volume initialization.
- FSR improves performance and predictability for use cases like VDI, backup & restore, test/dev volume copies, and booting from custom AMIs.
- Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager can now automate and manage FSR on snapshots it creates in these regions.
