Amazon EBS has launched Local Snapshots for AWS Dedicated Local Zones, a new feature designed to improve data backup and compliance for customers with specific geographical and regulatory requirements.

  • Local Snapshots allow customers to create EBS volume backups within the same geographical boundary as their volumes
  • Supports data isolation and data residency use cases for Dedicated Local Zones
  • Enables creation of IAM policies to enforce snapshot storage within the Local Zone
  • Compatible with Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager (DLM) for automated snapshot creation and retention
  • Accessible through AWS Console, CLI, and SDKs

This feature helps organizations maintain data sovereignty and meet specific compliance requirements by keeping backups within designated geographical boundaries.
