AWS CodePipeline introduces new general purpose compute action

News

AWS CodePipeline has introduced a new general purpose compute action called "Commands" that allows you to run shell commands as part of your pipeline execution.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • The Commands action provides a secure compute environment backed by CodeBuild to run AWS CLI, third-party tools, or any shell commands.
  • It runs CodeBuild managed on-demand EC2 compute, using an Amazon Linux 2023 standard 5.0 image.
  • Previously, you had to create a CodeBuild project to run commands, but now you can directly add the Commands action to your pipeline.
  • You can define one or more commands as part of the action configuration and use standard CodePipeline features like input/output artifacts and output variables.
  • The Commands action is available in all regions where AWS CodePipeline is supported.
