Amazon EC2 now offers native lineage tracking for Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), simplifying the process of tracing AMI origins.

  • Previously, tracking AMI sources required manual list maintenance and custom scripts
  • New capability allows users to easily view source details of AMIs
  • Lineage information is traceable when copying AMIs across AWS Regions
  • Can be accessed via AWS CLI, SDKs, and Console
  • Available at no additional cost in all AWS Regions, including GovCloud and China Regions
