Simplify Amazon VPC security groups management with VPC associations and security groups sharing

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has introduced two new features for Amazon VPC security groups to simplify security management across multiple VPCs and accounts:

  • Security Group VPC Associations: Allows creating security groups that can be used across multiple VPCs in the same account and region
  • Security Group Sharing: Enables sharing security groups with participant accounts in a shared VPC within an AWS Organization

Key benefits of these features include:

  • Ensuring consistent security rules across workloads
  • Simplifying security group configuration and maintenance
  • Reducing overhead of managing multiple security group configurations
  • Improving security policy management across multiple VPCs and accounts

These features can be used with AWS Firewall Manager and complement existing security group capabilities like security group referencing and VPC peering.
