Amazon S3 adds new functionality for conditional writes

News

Amazon S3 has introduced a new feature for conditional writes, which helps manage concurrent updates to the same object across distributed systems.

  • Allows evaluation of an object's state before updating using ETag
  • Prevents unintentional overwrites by multiple concurrent writers
  • Works with S3 PutObject and CompleteMultipartUpload API requests
  • Supports both general purpose and directory buckets
  • Enables compare and swap operations for large-scale analytics and distributed workloads

This functionality is available in all AWS Regions at no additional cost and can be implemented using AWS SDK, API, or CLI.
