Amazon S3 adds conditional write functionality to copy operations

News

Amazon S3 has introduced new conditional write functionality for copy operations, enhancing data management and preventing unintended overwrites.

  • Allows verification of object existence or modification before copying
  • Supports HTTP headers if-none-match and if-match for object validation
  • Enables S3 bucket policies with s3:if-match and s3:if-none-match condition keys
  • Eliminates need for additional client-side coordination mechanisms
  • Available at no extra charge across all AWS Regions
  • Compatible with AWS SDK, API, and CLI

This feature helps coordinate simultaneous writes and prevents concurrent writers from unintentionally overwriting objects in S3 buckets.
