Amazon Aurora now supports Graviton4-based R8g database instances

Amazon Aurora has expanded its database instance offerings with the general availability of Graviton4-based R8g instances for PostgreSQL and MySQL compatibility.

  • Available in US East, US West, and Europe (Frankfurt) regions
  • Offers larger instance sizes up to 48xlarge
  • Features 8:1 memory to vCPU ratio and DDR5 memory
  • Provides up to 40% performance improvement over Graviton3 instances
  • Offers up to 29% price/performance improvement
  • Can be deployed via RDS Management Console or AWS CLI
  • Upgrading to R8g requires simple instance type modification

These new Graviton4-based instances enhance Amazon Aurora's performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness for database workloads.
