AWS has introduced Advanced Scaling for Amazon EMR Managed Scaling, offering improved cluster resource management and optimization.

  • Provides more flexibility in controlling cluster performance and resource utilization
  • Addresses limitations of default scaling algorithm for short-duration tasks
  • Allows customers to configure scaling behavior based on workload type
  • Supports intelligent node addition and removal
  • Available with Amazon EMR release 7.0 and later

Advanced Scaling enables users to set ScalingStrategy and UtilizationPerformanceIndex parameters to optimize cluster compute resources more precisely, particularly for cost-sensitive workloads.
