Introducing Provisioned Mode for Kafka Event Source Mappings with AWS Lambda

Compute Blog

AWS has announced the general availability of Provisioned Mode for Kafka Event Source Mappings (ESMs) with AWS Lambda, offering enhanced control and performance optimization for Kafka-based event-driven applications.

  • Allows fine-tuning of throughput by configuring minimum and maximum event pollers
  • Enables responsive auto-scaling between configured poller ranges
  • Simplifies networking by removing PrivateLink configuration requirements
  • Supports various Kafka platforms including Amazon MSK, Confluent, and Redpanda
  • Offers performance improvements up to 70% compared to on-demand mode

The new feature helps developers build more responsive and scalable event-driven applications by providing granular control over event processing resources and throughput.
