AWS Lambda announces Provisioned Mode for Kafka event source mappings (ESMs)

News

AWS Lambda has introduced Provisioned Mode for Kafka Event Source Mappings (ESMs), a new feature designed to optimize event processing performance.

  • Allows fine-tuning of event polling resources for Kafka-based Lambda functions
  • Enables provisioning and auto-scaling of event pollers between minimum and maximum limits
  • Helps handle unpredictable traffic bursts in real-time applications
  • Available in most AWS Commercial Regions
  • Can be configured via API, AWS Console, CLI, SDK, CloudFormation, and SAM

The feature is billed using Event Poller Units (EPUs) and is ideal for applications with stringent performance requirements, providing more control over Lambda function throughput when using Kafka as an event source.
