How to Make Simple Email Service Resilient Across Two AWS Regions with Global Endpoints

Messaging & Targeting Blog

AWS has introduced Global Endpoints for Amazon Simple Email Service (SES), a feature that enhances email sending resilience across two AWS regions:

  • Automatically distributes email traffic across two AWS regions in an active/active configuration
  • Provides automatic failover when a region experiences degradation
  • Uses Multi-Region Endpoint (MREP) to route traffic between healthy regions
  • Introduces Deterministic Easy DKIM (DEED) for simplified multi-region domain identity verification
  • Offers console tools to duplicate configurations and sending limits across regions

Key benefits include simplified multi-region configuration, automatic routing, and improved email sending resilience without manual intervention. The feature is available for SES API v2 and does not support SMTP or VPC endpoint access.
