AWS announces IPv6 support for EC2 Public DNS names

News

AWS has announced IPv6 support for EC2 Public DNS names, enabling customers to resolve DNS names to IPv6 Global Unicast Addresses for EC2 instances and Elastic Network Interfaces.

  • Previously, EC2 Public DNS names only resolved to IPv4 addresses
  • Now customers can access IPv6-only or dual-stack instances using DNS names
  • Eliminates the need to use specific IPv6 addresses or create custom domains
  • Supports easier migration to IPv6 networks
  • Available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud (US) Regions
  • Can be configured using existing VPC settings

This update simplifies IPv6 network access for AWS customers by providing native IPv6 DNS resolution for EC2 instances.
