Amazon RDS for DB2 now supports cross region standby replicas

Amazon RDS for DB2 has introduced cross-region standby replicas, a new disaster recovery feature designed to minimize database downtime.

  • Allows customers to configure standby replicas in different AWS regions
  • Supports up to three standby replicas per database instance
  • Asynchronously replicates changes from primary to standby instances
  • Enables quick promotion of standby replica to primary during outages
  • Requires commercial database licenses for only two vCPUs per replica
  • Supports both Bring Your Own License (BYOL) and Marketplace licensing models

This feature provides enhanced database resilience and business continuity by enabling rapid failover across different AWS regions.
