AWS has announced the open-sourcing of AWS API Model definition files and service model packages, providing developers with comprehensive access to API definitions for all AWS services.

  • API models are published daily to a GitHub repository in Smithy format
  • Packages are also available on Maven Central
  • Developers can use the same service model definitions that AWS uses for live services
  • Enables use cases like mock testing and server development
  • Supports generating custom AWS SDKs using open-source Smithy code generators

This release provides developers with more transparency and flexibility in working with AWS service APIs, allowing for easier integration and custom tool development.
