Amazon Time Sync Service has enhanced its capabilities by introducing nanosecond-precision hardware packet timestamping for supported Amazon EC2 instances.
- Timestamps are added at the hardware level before kernel processing
- Uses the AWS Nitro System's reference clock for high-precision timing
- Enables precise packet ordering and network latency measurement
- Accessible through standard Linux socket API
- Available in all regions supporting PTP Hardware Clocks
- Works on both virtualized and bare metal instances
- No additional cost for the feature
This enhancement allows customers to improve distributed system transaction speed and network performance with unprecedented timing accuracy.
