Database Blog

AWS has announced enhanced throttling observability features for Amazon DynamoDB to help developers better understand and mitigate performance issues.

  • New structured exceptions with detailed "ThrottlingReasons" field explaining why requests were throttled
  • Eight new CloudWatch metrics to provide granular insights into throttling events
  • CloudWatch Contributor Insights now has a cost-effective "throttled-keys-only" mode to detect hot keys
  • Improved SDK exception handling for more precise error tracking

These enhancements enable developers to quickly diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in DynamoDB by providing more precise and actionable information about throttling events.
