Amazon MSK adds support for Apache Kafka version 4.1

Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) now supports Apache Kafka version 4.1, introducing several new features and improvements:

  • Queues introduced as a preview feature, enabling multiple consumers to process messages from the same topic partitions
  • New Streams Rebalance Protocol for optimized task assignments and broker coordination
  • Eligible Leader Replicas (ELR) now enabled by default to improve availability
  • Easy upgrade process through AWS Management Console, CLI, or SDKs
  • Supports in-place rolling updates for existing MSK provisioned clusters

The update is available across all AWS regions where Amazon MSK is offered, providing improved parallelism and throughput for Kafka workloads.
