Amazon ECS improves Service Availability during Rolling deployments

News

This article announces enhancements to Amazon ECS that improve service availability during rolling deployments.

  • Unhealthy or terminated tasks now replaced with same service version, not new version
  • Maintains availability when new version tasks fail or cannot launch successfully
  • Application Auto Scaling now applies scale-out to both service revisions during deployments
  • Respects existing maximumPercent and minimumHealthyPercent configuration settings
  • Enabled by default for all rolling deployment strategy services across all AWS Regions

These enhancements ensure service availability is maintained even when new deployments encounter failures or scaling events.
