Introducing cross-account support for Amazon CloudFront Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) origins

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has introduced cross-account support for Amazon CloudFront Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) origins, enabling organizations to:

  • Share VPC origins across different AWS accounts using AWS Resource Access Manager (AWS RAM)
  • Deliver content from applications in private subnets across multiple accounts
  • Maintain security and organizational structures with multi-account strategies
  • Connect CloudFront distributions to VPC origins in separate accounts
  • Support both HTTP and HTTPS origin configurations

This feature allows organizations to keep VPC origins and CloudFront distributions in separate accounts while maintaining secure content delivery, addressing previous multi-account infrastructure limitations.
