AWS Security Token Service Now Supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)

This article announces that AWS Security Token Service (STS) now supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) through new dual-stack endpoints.

  • STS now supports IPv6, IPv4, and dual-stack client connections over public internet
  • Dual-stack support available via AWS PrivateLink for private VPC access
  • No need to traverse public internet when using PrivateLink
  • Available in all AWS Commercial Regions, GovCloud (US), and China Regions
  • Configure STS client using new dual-stack endpoints per IAM user guide

In summary, AWS STS now enables IPv6 connectivity alongside IPv4, providing more flexible network options for authentication and authorization across all AWS regions.
