Amazon EMR and AWS Glue now support write operations with AWS Lake Formation fine-grained access controls
News
This article announces that Amazon EMR and AWS Glue now support write operations with AWS Lake Formation fine-grained access controls, extending security enforcement beyond read-only operations.
- Lake Formation FGAC now enforces permissions on write operations (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, MERGE, CREATE, ALTER, DROP)
- Previously only supported read operations (SELECT, DESCRIBE) on registered tables
- Enables end-to-end data workflows with consistent security controls in single Spark job
- Eliminates need for separate clusters or applications for read and write tasks
- Reduces infrastructure costs and simplifies data governance frameworks
- Available in all AWS Regions where EMR, Glue, and Lake Formation are supported
This enhancement streamlines data workflows by allowing organizations to enforce unified access controls across both read and write operations, improving security and operational efficiency.
