Amazon EC2 now supports Availability Zone ID across its APIs

News

This article announces that Amazon EC2 now supports Availability Zone ID (AZ ID) parameters across its APIs, enabling consistent resource placement across AWS accounts.

  • AZ IDs are static identifiers representing same physical location across all AWS accounts
  • Replaces inconsistent AZ names that could map to different physical locations
  • Enables guaranteed co-location of resources across multiple accounts
  • Supported for instances, volumes, subnets, launch templates, hosts, and other EC2 resources
  • Available in all AWS regions including China and GovCloud

This feature simplifies multi-account resource management by providing consistent zone identifiers that eliminate manual AZ name mapping complexity.
