Zone Groups, originally introduced for AWS Local Zones, are now being extended to Availability Zones in AWS Regions with a consistent naming format to differentiate groups of Local Zones and Availability Zones, improving manageability and clarity.

<p>This article announces the upcoming extension of "Zone Groups" to Availability Zones (AZs) across all AWS Regions, in addition to their existing use with AWS Local Zones.</p>

<li>Introduction of Zone Groups for AWS Local Zones in 2019 to identify related Local Zones in the same geography</li>
<li>Upcoming extension of Zone Group naming convention to Availability Zones in October 2024</li>
