AWS now supports Zone Groups for Availability Zones
News
AWS has introduced Zone Groups for Availability Zones across all regions, providing a new way to identify and differentiate groups of Local Zones and Availability Zones.
- Zone Groups help identify related Local Zones in the same geography
- Example: Los Angeles Local Zones (us-west-2-lax-1a and us-west-2-lax-1b) form the us-west-2-lax-1 Zone Group
- Zone Group information is now available in the DescribeAvailabilityZones API
- Availability Zones in a region now have a new group identifier (e.g., us-west-2-zg-1)
- This replaces the previous region naming convention
The new Zone Groups feature provides more granular information about AWS Availability Zones and Local Zones.
