AWS Direct Connect adds CloudWatch metrics for BGP monitoring
News
This article announces three new Amazon CloudWatch metrics for AWS Direct Connect virtual interfaces that enable native BGP session monitoring without custom solutions.
- VirtualInterfaceBgpStatus reports BGP session state for failure detection
- VirtualInterfaceBgpPrefixesAccepted tracks on-premises prefixes to prevent idle state
- VirtualInterfaceBgpPrefixesAdvertised monitors AWS-advertised routes for configuration validation
- Metrics available for private, public, and transit virtual interfaces
- Integrates with CloudWatch alarms, dashboards, and SNS notifications
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions
These metrics eliminate the need for custom Lambda functions or on-premises tools, reducing network issue detection time and simplifying hybrid cloud connectivity management.
