This article announces that Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports read replicas for database instances with additional storage volumes.
- Read replicas now supported for instances with additional storage volumes
- Additional storage volumes enable scaling up to 256 TiB total capacity
- Supports same-region and cross-region read replica creation
- Read replicas preserve source instance storage layout and configuration
- Storage volumes can be independently managed on source and replicas
- Available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud regions
- Accessible via AWS Management Console, CLI, and SDKs
This enhancement allows SQL Server customers to scale storage beyond primary volume limits while maintaining read replica functionality across regions.
